Welcome to the website for the Rochester Cathedral Company of Bell Ringers. Here you can find out more about the bells and ringing at the Cathedral. You can also find out more about our project to carry out repairs and make improvements to the Cathedral bells.

Rochester Cathedral

Rochester Cathedral is the second oldest Cathedral Foundation in England, founded in 604 by Bishop Justus. The current building dates from 1080. There have been bells at the Cathedral since Saxon times, and evidence of bells in the current Cathedral date from 1154. The Cathedral currently has a ring of 10 bells which were cast in 1921.

The bells are used primarily to ring for Sunday worship, although they are used to mark other events too. The Bell Ringers also practise weekly on the bells to develop their own skills and ability. Most of the band are members of the Kent County Association of Change Ringers.
